In class we did a project about a person we know who has made a difference in the world. I choose to do my dad because he started a organisation to help people in Ghana, Africa. He and the organisation have made a difference in so many people's lives. I got to go once to Ghana to help build a school. It was an amazing experience, and I will never ever forget it. Here is the link for my project: World Joy
I absolutely love going to Caritas. The kids are so cute, and they always make my day a 1000 times better. The first time we went I was a little nervous because I don't know that much Portuguese, it ended up going well except the girls my group worked with were really shy. Over the next few visits, the kids started warming up to us, they aren't being as shy as they were in the beginning. The last time we went lots of girls ran up to me and gave me a hug the second they saw me, and the kids are talking to me and they are always patient when I try my hardest to talk balk to them because like I already mentioned my Portuguese isn't very good. I feel so good when I am around the kids, they always are happy and have a good attitude. The kids really don't have much so seeing them as happy as they are is really cool. Service learning has been my favourite elective of the year, because of the kids. I love kids and I love doing service so this class is perfect for me.
I think so far this semester I have displayed the core values, critical thinker, curious, responsible, and risk-taker. I think I have displayed all of those core values because I am always thinking of ways I can help, I try my hardest in everything I am doing, I try to speak Portuguese to the kids at Caritas, etc. I think I can improve on the core values, communicator and reflective. Since I am still learning Portuguese, I am slowly growing in the core value communicator except I can improve by trying to learn more and just trying to talk to the kids at Caritas the best I can. I think I can improve on the core value reflective by accessing myself on my strengths and limitations.
